What is backflow prevention?

Backflow describes water going back into the main water source which can cause contamination. This is most likely to happen with a drop in pressure in the main or if the water pressure on-site is higher than the mains source. Contamination can include chemicals, oils, bacteria or other detritus which can cause serious health risks.

Minimising the risk associated with backflow is the responsibility of the property owner, but we’re accredited to assist you and ensure you’re meeting your obligations.

What is a backflow prevention device?

A backflow prevention device is a specific type of valve, designed to ensure water only flows in one direction – away from the mains water source. The device must accurately prevent backflow based on your hazard rating.

In Sydney, property owners are obligated to perform backflow prevention device testing for containment devices annually and to register the results with Sydney Water. We are accredited backflow plumbers who can come to your site and test your device to ensure you have the right one for your needs. Your hazard rating may change with any site activity changes and if you have more than one connection to the water mains, the type of device may vary.
